From competition to cooperation: Visual neglect across the hemispheres

چکیده
Visuospatial neglect is a frequent and disabling consequence of injuries to the right hemisphere. Patients with show signs impaired attention for left-sided events, which depends on dysfunction fronto-parietal networks. After unilateral injury, such as stroke, these networks their contralateral homologs can reorganize following multiple potential trajectories, be either adaptive or maladaptive. This article presents possible factors influencing profile evolution towards recovery chronicity, highlights mechanisms that may constrain processes in time space. The integrity white matter pathways within between hemisphere appears pose crucial connectivity constraints compensatory brain plasticity from remote regions. Specifically, availability sufficient degree inter-hemispheric might critical shift role undamaged left spatial neglect, exerting maladaptive effects, promoting activity.

Cooperation or Competition of the Two Hemispheres in Processing Characters Presented at Vertical Midline
Little is known about how the hemispheres interact in processing of stimuli presented at vertical midline. Processing might be mutually independent or cooperative. Here we measured target identification and visually evoked EEG potentials while stimulus streams containing two targets, T1 and T2, were either presented at vertical midline above and below fixation, or laterally, left and right. Wit...
متن کاملA biased competition based neurodynamical model of visual neglect.
On the computational basis of a neurodynamical cortical model, we investigate a specific top-down visual cognitive impairment in brain-damaged patients known as visual spatial neglect. The computational cortical model accounts the neurodynamics underlying selective visual attention, is based on the "biased competition hypothesis" and structured in several network modules which can be related wi...
متن کاملfrom linguistics to literature: a linguistic approach to the study of linguistic deviations in the turkish divan of shahriar
chapter i provides an overview of structural linguistics and touches upon the saussurean dichotomies with the final goal of exploring their relevance to the stylistic studies of literature. to provide evidence for the singificance of the study, chapter ii deals with the controversial issue of linguistics and literature, and presents opposing views which, at the same time, have been central to t...

This chapter is concerned with my interrelated theoretical work in the areas of cooperation competition, conflict resolution, social justice, and social relations. The theory of cooperation competition is a component of the other theories. Thus, the theory of conflict resolution is based on this theory and my Crude Law of Social Relations. My work in social justice is also based on this theory,...
متن کاملSpatial cognition: evidence from visual neglect.
Recent work on human attention and representational systems has benefited from a growing interplay between research on normal attention and neuropsychological disorders such as visual neglect. Research over the past 30 years has convincingly shown that, far from being a unitary condition, neglect is a protean disorder whose symptoms can selectively affect different sensory modalities, cognitive...
